Maxmed Healthcare is seeking a Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner to provide services within the Deployment Related Health Assessment program at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Work Hours:The HCW shall provide services Monday through Friday for generally an 8.5 or 9 hour period between the hours of 0700 and 1600. Each shift shall include a 0.5 hour to 1 hour uncompensated meal-break. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of 80 hours per 2-week period.
Duties: The duties for the HCW include but are not limited to the following:
- Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures.
- Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician. Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.
- Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated. The HCW shall schedule patients for appointments using MHS Genesis.
- Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling. Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
- Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
- Serve and participate in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provide relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participate in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
- The HCW shall attend in-service training in new procedures, techniques, and equipment as well as military specific training as directed by the flight Commander or AF policy
- Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
- Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient’s condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care. Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.
- Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
- Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness Medical Records Documentation.
- Health care providers shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient.
- Serve as the Primary Care Manager (PCM) for a panel of patients enrolled in an HMO-style benefit. The Commanding Officer will enroll a maximum of 1,200 TRICARE Prime enrollees in the HCW.
- In addition to enrolled patients, the HCW shall treat all other authorized beneficiaries as directed bythe Senior Medical Officer, Officer in Charge, or other authority in the chain-of-command.
- General. As directed, the HCW shall participate in outreach and marketing of the PDHRA programand services provided. As such, the HCW shall liaise with the Line Commanders, screen patients, provide treatmentwhen appropriate, educate returning units on the availability of the service and coordinate follow on care.
- Liaison. The HCW shall travel as directed to various branch clinics or Line Units within a 35-mileradius of the NBHC. Additionally, the HCW may be required to travel to provide temporary services at outlyingclinic locations beyond 35 miles. And overnight stay may be required. Travel to the outlying locations beyond a 35-mile radius of the NBHC will be reimbursed according to the basic contract and shall be in accordance with thebasic contract.
- The HCW shall communicate the Line Commanders to make them aware of the Deployment HealthClinic benefit, clarify who is eligible to receive services, and to initiate the screening process. Communications willtake place at the clinic and “in the field,” with the Line units.
- The HCW shall coordinate with MTF assigned personnel to schedule initial patient screenings.
- Screening. The HCW shall provide deployment health screening services to all service memberseither individually or in groups, at the clinic or at the Line unit as determined necessary.
- The HCW shall perform Deployment Health screenings, assess the results, treat patients, and referpatients for further treatment as appropriate. An electronic or web-enabled DD Form 2900 (or Standard Form 600 ifelectronic or web-enabled access is not available) shall be utilized for post deployment health reassessments, andelectronic or web-enabled DD Form 2795 shall be utilized for pre-deployment assessments, and an electronic orweb-enabled DD Form 2796 shall be utilized for post deployment screenings.
- Administrative. The HCW shall coordinate with MTF assigned personnel to schedule initial andfollow-on appointments or referrals for service members before they leave the clinic or the screening at the LineUnit.
- The HCW shall become proficient with the use of the Navy Electronic Deployment Health Assessment(EDHA), AHLTA, the Medical Readiness Reporting System (MRRS) or other electronic data programs deemednecessary by the Officer-in-Charge to document and track deployment health assessments.
- The HCW shall ensure proper handling, filing and storing of all completed forms in the patient’smedical record and ensure transmission of all electronic forms to Navy Environmental Health Clinic (NEHC).
- One-time training requirement for DRHA Physician Extender- Complete DRHA/MHA provider training requirements as specified in AFI 48-122 and Base Operational Medical Clinic guidance after in-processing, and submit required certificates to the MTF credentials manager. Additionally, healthcare providers conducting DRHAs will complete program orientation with a DRHA Program Office representative via phone.
- DRHA Physician Extender will perform deployment related health assessment and annual mental health assessment services that comply with applicable Department of Defense and Air Force policy and guidance, to include required standards of care and clinical practice guidelines. Additionally, the Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner must a have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and become proficient in the use of the following computer systems: MHS Genesis, Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS), Healthcare Artifact and Image Management Solution (HAIMS), and Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV).

- Degree/Education
- Physician Assistant- Master’s Degree. Graduate from an accredited college or university certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Nurse Practitioner- Master’s degree in nursing. Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Current American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification. Certification granted based solely on computer-based training does not constitute fulfillment of this requirement.
- At least 24 months of experience working as a Family Health Physician Assistant or Family Health Nurse Practitioner within the last 36 months.
- Maintain an active, valid, current, and unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice as a PA/NP in any US state/jurisdiction.
