Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and the practice policies and procedures. This position practices professional nursing by performing acts which require substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied principles of psychological, physical, and social sciences.
Responsibilities
Provides professional nursing care to patients. Observes, assesses, performs nursing diagnosis, with intervention and evaluation of care of the patient as directed by providers. Performs patient check in duties promptly, prepares equipment and aids Physician/APP during treatment and examination of patient. Assists Physician/APP with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments when appropriate. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Obtains vital signs, collects samples, such as blood for testing and may perform routine laboratory tests, where applicable. Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care. Appropriately operates clinical equipment as indicated. Answers patient calls and requests in a timely manner. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Indirectly supervises Medical Assistants within the practice. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns. Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
