Nemours is seeking a Diener - Autopsy Assistant (CASUAL/PRN), to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, Florida.

The Laboratory Diener/Autopsy Assistant performs various laboratory support procedures in the morgue and autopsy suite. Duties include assisting the Pathologist with autopsies including set-up, evisceration, clean-up and maintenance of morgue and autopsy materials. Work involves practical knowledge in autopsy procedures and support functions. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies must be adhered to.
- Performs assigned pre-autopsy “set up” which may include general equipment maintenance, inventory control and stocking of morgue supplies, maintenance of instruments and tools or other pre-analytical activities.
- Performs evisceration by methods approved by the pathologist and proper labeling of tissue and organ containers and cassettes as specified by pathologist.
- Performs post-autopsy activities including preparation of body for transport and disinfection of instruments and morgue.
- Performs various support activities to pathologist during autopsy including taking notes, weighing organs, label tissue samples.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma required. Specialized (1 year of training beyond high school) required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience required.
- Pathologist’s Assistant or Histotechnologist preferred.
- Technical skills and work experiences related to autopsy as described above.
- Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely.
- Ability to learn and apply computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices.
